This is one of those moments:

Joe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-18625034348764197152007-02-03T13:53:00.000-06:002007-02-03T13:58:38.614-06:00Promotional Stuff now up!Over at the Hub, OceanFrontMovie.com, we finally have promotional items for people to buy, thanks to our friends at Cafe Press!

What, you don't want to go to OceanFrontMovie.com just to click over? Fine. Go HERE.

Lots of fun stuff on there and much more, funner stuff to come. But here's the big news...

FOR A LIMITED TIME (ending April 1st), ALL OFP ITEMS ON CAFE PRESS ARE GOING WITHOUT ANY MARKUP!

That means the price you'll be paying is as low as Cafe Press will let us. I won't make a dime. But I want you to take this chance to get stuff before I get greedy and start trying to make a few bucks off every purchase.

Seriously. I want people wearing OFP T-shirts and drinking from OFP mugs. I want people to see it and ask about it and run to the website to learn more. That's more important to me than making $2 off every sale.

So, go check it out! Got any ideas for promo items? Let me know! I'll be adding stuff as time goes on.

Thanks! Enjoy the crap!

Joe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-39865044085832339402007-02-02T23:02:00.000-06:002007-02-02T23:06:46.601-06:00Blog commentary on "Pierre and the Prodigal Son"One of the things I hoped to do in this blog was give some commentary on the scenes that I release here. So, here's some commentary on the latest scene, "Pierre and the Prodigal Son"

First, the scene. In case you haven't seen it (go ahead, it's short).

Early on in the writing of Ocean Front, I knew that I wanted to make Pierre more than just a one-note antagonist that Rick had to compete with. But it was important that he be formidably intimidating. So, I wanted him to be "ridiculously good looking" as Derek Zoolander would say, but I wanted him to be empathetic. Having him be a "bad guy" would be too easy. It's easy for Rick to hate him. It's easy for the audience to hate him. Making him likable - and maybe even the best person in the story - that's hard.

Thad, whom I've been friends with for a while now, was always in my mind for Pierre. Not only is he ridiculously good looking, he's also a genuinely cool and likeable guy. So, he was on board from the beginning. Even before I knew I'd be playing Rick, I knew Thad would play Pierre.

I chose to go ahead and put it out there that he has issues with Rick from almost the moment he shows up. He comes right out and explains it later, but I wanted to get out right at the beginning that he feels he's living in Rick's shadow. Later on, he can't believe that Rick doesn't see the power he still weilds over their relationship.

I've often said my favorite scenes in the movie are the ones I'm not in. This short but sweet scene is one of them. I think Thad and Lizzie look very natural here and give us a nice peek into the relationship between these two. It also hints at the near obsessive nature of Valerie that comes to play in a big way later in the movie ("I used to care what they thought, but ever since I met you, their opinion has become meaningless.")

It's also a scene that proves yet again that what I think is funny on the page and what is funny in the movie isn't always what others will think is funny. The part where he says, "Honey, you just listed another reason for them to hate me," always made me smile. Just the fact that in trying to convince him that her parents like him, she winds up proving his point. But, it's never really gotten much reaction in screenings.

Oh well. I still like it.

And the music from Goldenboy at the end is one of my more favorite pieces of music in the film. It plays through a couple more scenes, actually.

Joe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-20264141270944965952007-01-31T20:25:00.000-06:002007-01-31T20:30:18.031-06:00Now on iTunes! Those wacky, zany, fun Ocean Front Property videos you know and love are now a podcast on iTunes! The videos are now on Revver. For those who don't know, Revver is a for-profit video service that attaches ads to the ends of the videos and the creator (that's me, not God) gets a kickback on any clickthroughs to the ads at the end. So, if there's something at the end of this (and I have no idea what it is) that you have any scant interest in, give 'er a click and send some support my way.

Even better, if you repost a video and share it on your blog or website, you get a cut of the earnings yourself. Pretty sweet, huh? So spread the love. And wipe up when you're done.

Joe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-62244526653915308872007-01-25T15:54:00.000-06:002007-01-25T15:56:10.932-06:00Delicious DiggI've just linked up the site to the wondrous world of Digg and Del.icio.us. John Frazier, who plays Stan in Ocean Front Property, came by over the holidays and we talked about our favorite memories from the shoot. I find out that making the movie had a profound effect on him.

"A Talk With John" - video powered by Metacafe

Don't forget to check out Grapeflix to stream the movie for only $.28 cents!Joe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-31404345064441175452007-01-15T15:06:00.000-06:002007-01-15T15:24:06.429-06:00Download Ocean Front Property Online! We're excited to announce that Ocean Front Property can finally be downloaded and watched online from a new service called Grapeflix.

I was always concerned about how I would get perfect strangers who have no interest in indie films, know nothing about Ocean Front Property, or know any of the actors to see the movie. I know I would have a hard time spending $15 on a movie if I didn't know anything about anybody in it.

I decided the only way to get people interested would be to generate interest by releasing videos (like the ones here), including scenes from the movie, and then provide a way for people to watch it for as cheap as possible, then they can decide if they want to buy it.

Finally Grapeflix makes that possible. On Grapeflix, you have the option of downloading the movie to own and watch over and over as many times as you like, or renting the movie, which allows you to watch it all you want for 2-3 days, but after that it won't play anymore. Or, you can actually stream the movie online, in full-screen even, to the tune of a whopping .28 cents. (Unfortunately they have to charge a small fee to cover the bandwidth)

The only caveats are that you can only do it on a PC right now, and only with Internet Explorer.

But that's all. If you're interested at all in seeing what all this hoopla is about, all you have to do is go to Grapeflix.com, register for free, and stream away for less than a pack of gum. And if you like it, you can buy from any of the locations on OceanFrontMovie.com.

Enjoy the show!Joe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-53874410111166125112007-01-08T22:00:00.000-06:002007-01-08T22:03:21.151-06:00New Ocean Front Video - "Best Birthday Ever"Hey, finally back from the marathon holiday season with a new video for ya, this one called Best Birthday Ever:

"Best Birthday Ever" - video powered by Metacafe

There's probably going to be a few changes around the homepage soon, there's some new vendors and locations to see and download the movie. The newest one is MetaCafe.

What's cool about MetaCafe is they actually have a program where you can get paid for the number of hits you receive. And from a video poster's standpoint, they have some cool functions that YouTube doesn't offer, like you can pick the frame from the video that will be the thumbnail that people see, as opposed to whatever random moment YouTube picks for you.

So, I'll be posting vids from MetaCafe here from now on. CLICK over and watch a few of the vids, it would really help me out!

Ocean Front Property Trailer - video powered by MetacafeJoe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-20834995184533441842006-12-17T23:05:00.000-06:002006-12-17T23:29:44.637-06:00New Vid! There are still a few outlets for finding Ocean Front that are still being worked out, and of course this will be the first place I'll announce it when it happens, but I'm not one for waiting. Obviously. If I was, I'd probably still be waiting to shoot the dang thing.

So, in a sense, the nature of this release is right in keeping with the nature this entire production. :)

On the home page (http://www.oceanfrontmovie.com), there is a listing for Amazon.com, which says "coming soon". The CustomFlix service that appears below it offers sales on Amazon.com, but I've been told it takes up to 2 weeks to get that set up. So, it's a definite thing. Just gotta wait for it to get set up. And there's nothing I can do to speed that up, unfortunately.

Something else I'm doing is working with a couple of online retailers that stream the movie online or offer a "download to own" option where you can download the film and then burn it to a DVD so it'll play like any regular DVD. These services are out there and I'm trying to set it up, and when I do, I'm going to try to get it for as cheap as I possibly can, perhaps to the point where I make nothing at all from the sale, because I think it's only fair if I'm asking someone to buy a movie that they've never heard of, with actors they've never heard of, they should be able to at least see it once for really cheap, instead of being asked to shell out a bunch of money for a DVD.

You might notice I mention that option in the video. That might be a little bit of gun-jumping. But I'll get it out there.

Speaking of DVDs, I am also working on a bigger, full-feature, "deluxe" version with deleted scenes (which even the cast have never seen) outtakes, maybe commentary, etc. I will probably only be able to offer that through PayPal, but we'll see. Again, you'll hear it here first.

Anyway, thanks as always for visiting. Feel free to post comments, questions, "screw yous" below. I'm always open to feedback for this whole experiment of mine.

Peace,

-JoeJoe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780157904843495961.post-8754689063316432372006-11-30T19:33:00.000-06:002006-11-30T19:36:37.793-06:00Ocean Front Property Full TrailerHere's the original trailer for the movie. But here goes.

First off, why a blog?

Because by God, sometimes you just gotta blog.

Actually, I don't plan on putting a lot of lengthy posts in here. I have other avenues to express my deepest opinions. This is strictly for keeping people up and informed on the newest developments in Ocean Front Property and my adventure in self-distribution.

The big joy of a blog is the ability to subscribe so you can be updated on the spot. So, if you want to be the first to know what new video is out (which should happen once a week), subscribe to this blog and you will be. Like I said, I won't waste your time with a bunch of claptrap. This is all about the movie.

Feel free to give me feedback for the videos here. For more information about the film, go to www.oceanfrontmovie.com. Links to the side for places to find the movie, buy it and watch it.

Thanks for visiting. Come back. Tell friends. Link videos. Wash behind your ears.

Peace,

-JoeJoe Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02510525032879023964noreply@blogger.com5
