New OFP Video - A Talk with Erin

I sat down and interviewed Erin McGrew about her award-winning performance in Ocean Front Property, and we displayed the characteristic bond of friendship that we developed through the making of the movie.

Promotional Stuff now up!

Over at the Hub, OceanFrontMovie.com, we finally have promotional items for people to buy, thanks to our friends at Cafe Press!

What, you don't want to go to OceanFrontMovie.com just to click over? Fine. Go HERE.

Lots of fun stuff on there and much more, funner stuff to come. But here's the big news...

FOR A LIMITED TIME (ending April 1st), ALL OFP ITEMS ON CAFE PRESS ARE GOING WITHOUT ANY MARKUP!

That means the price you'll be paying is as low as Cafe Press will let us. I won't make a dime. But I want you to take this chance to get stuff before I get greedy and start trying to make a few bucks off every purchase.

Seriously. I want people wearing OFP T-shirts and drinking from OFP mugs. I want people to see it and ask about it and run to the website to learn more. That's more important to me than making $2 off every sale.

So, go check it out! Got any ideas for promo items? Let me know! I'll be adding stuff as time goes on.

Thanks! Enjoy the crap!

Blog commentary on "Pierre and the Prodigal Son"

One of the things I hoped to do in this blog was give some commentary on the scenes that I release here. So, here's some commentary on the latest scene, "Pierre and the Prodigal Son"

First, the scene. In case you haven't seen it (go ahead, it's short).

Early on in the writing of Ocean Front, I knew that I wanted to make Pierre more than just a one-note antagonist that Rick had to compete with. But it was important that he be formidably intimidating. So, I wanted him to be "ridiculously good looking" as Derek Zoolander would say, but I wanted him to be empathetic. Having him be a "bad guy" would be too easy. It's easy for Rick to hate him. It's easy for the audience to hate him. Making him likable - and maybe even the best person in the story - that's hard.

Thad, whom I've been friends with for a while now, was always in my mind for Pierre. Not only is he ridiculously good looking, he's also a genuinely cool and likeable guy. So, he was on board from the beginning. Even before I knew I'd be playing Rick, I knew Thad would play Pierre.

I chose to go ahead and put it out there that he has issues with Rick from almost the moment he shows up. He comes right out and explains it later, but I wanted to get out right at the beginning that he feels he's living in Rick's shadow. Later on, he can't believe that Rick doesn't see the power he still weilds over their relationship.

I've often said my favorite scenes in the movie are the ones I'm not in. This short but sweet scene is one of them. I think Thad and Lizzie look very natural here and give us a nice peek into the relationship between these two. It also hints at the near obsessive nature of Valerie that comes to play in a big way later in the movie ("I used to care what they thought, but ever since I met you, their opinion has become meaningless.")

It's also a scene that proves yet again that what I think is funny on the page and what is funny in the movie isn't always what others will think is funny. The part where he says, "Honey, you just listed another reason for them to hate me," always made me smile. Just the fact that in trying to convince him that her parents like him, she winds up proving his point. But, it's never really gotten much reaction in screenings.

Oh well. I still like it.

And the music from Goldenboy at the end is one of my more favorite pieces of music in the film. It plays through a couple more scenes, actually.

OFP Scene from the movie - "Pierre and the Prodigal Son"

Hey there, back with another clip from the movie.

In this one, Valerie's husband, Pierre, whom she left Rick for and who has turned out to be the tall, dark, and handsome Mister Perfect that Rick always feared he would be, admits in a private moment to Valerie that he has some issues of his own.

Oh, yeah, and check it, kids! The videos are now on Revver. For those who don't know, Revver is a for-profit video service that attaches ads to the ends of the videos and the creator (that's me, not God) gets a kickback on any clickthroughs to the ads at the end. So, if there's something at the end of this (and I have no idea what it is) that you have any scant interest in, give 'er a click and send some support my way.

Even better, if you repost a video and share it on your blog or website, you get a cut of the earnings yourself. Pretty sweet, huh? So spread the love. And wipe up when you're done.

Ocean Front Property Video - "A Talk with John"

Hey, I shouldn't get all the airtime. John Frazier, who plays Stan in Ocean Front Property, came by over the holidays and we talked about our favorite memories from the shoot. I find out that making the movie had a profound effect on him.

Don't forget to check out Grapeflix to stream the movie for only $.28 cents!

Download Ocean Front Property Online!

We're excited to announce that Ocean Front Property can finally be downloaded and watched online from a new service called Grapeflix.

I was always concerned about how I would get perfect strangers who have no interest in indie films, know nothing about Ocean Front Property, or know any of the actors to see the movie. I know I would have a hard time spending $15 on a movie if I didn't know anything about anybody in it.

I decided the only way to get people interested would be to generate interest by releasing videos (like the ones here), including scenes from the movie, and then provide a way for people to watch it for as cheap as possible, then they can decide if they want to buy it.

Finally Grapeflix makes that possible. On Grapeflix, you have the option of downloading the movie to own and watch over and over as many times as you like, or renting the movie, which allows you to watch it all you want for 2-3 days, but after that it won't play anymore. Or, you can actually stream the movie online, in full-screen even, to the tune of a whopping .28 cents. (Unfortunately they have to charge a small fee to cover the bandwidth)

The only caveats are that you can only do it on a PC right now, and only with Internet Explorer.

But that's all. If you're interested at all in seeing what all this hoopla is about, all you have to do is go to Grapeflix.com, register for free, and stream away for less than a pack of gum. And if you like it, you can buy from any of the locations on OceanFrontMovie.com.

Enjoy the show!
